Holly the Christmas Octopus is the sweetest octopus you will ever meet! She even saved Santa's sleigh once! On Christmas Eve one year, Holly was down on the beach during a super low tide searching for a sea star to be be the jewel on the top of her Christmas tree, when all of a sudden, Santa's Sleigh came crashing out of trees and into sand! All of the reindeer were missing and poor Santa was covered in sand from head to foot. Even worse, seaweed had managed to completely entangle all of the reindeer's harnesses! Holly offered her nimble tentacles to untangle the seaweed mess! Santa explained that the sea-reindeer (much larger cousins to the seahorse) had played a practical joke on Santa's reindeer and had all gotten soaked in the sea. Just then, Santa's reindeer climbed out of the sea looking embarrassed. Santa thanked Holly for fixing his sleigh and gave her a special present. A seedling Octopus Tree. He showed her a magic grove at Saltwater State park to plant it in so that it could flourish.

Kiki The Only Princess Octopus is descended from a long line of Octopodes that have called Saltwater State Park their home. She got her title of "Princess" When saved the park (and all of her fellow tree octopuses) from burning down. A visitor had not put out their camp fire completely. She was passing by when she heard a little mouse crying for help! He had been trapped by the spreading campfire. Kiki knew right where to find a bucket and scooped up some water and put out the campfire. Since then, her fellow forest dwellers called her a true princess. Remember! Always make sure your campfire is COMPLETELY out before walking away!
Sequim, pronounced "Squim" is a 3 year old male Tree Octopus. Sequim's favorite past time is hunting, and his favorite thing to hunt is snails. He loved hunting and eating snails so much as a hatchling that his adopted father named him Sequim, which in the S’Klallam language means “a place to hunt.” He made his way to Saltwater State Park by following the fastest snail that he had ever encountered. It could zip through the woods faster than Sequim could swing through the trees. He followed it all the way to Saltwater State Park. He lost the snail and he still hunts it to this day. He's heard rumors that Zip the Snail (Sequim learned the snail's name from the Rangers) lives at the Octopus Tree, which he has yet to find.
Issaquah or "Izzy" is an eight year old female Tree Octopus that has raised several orphaned hatchlings in Saltwater State Park. She loves bird watching and listening to all the different sounds that birds can make. Even as a hatchling, Izzy loved birds and was drawn to them, that's how she got her name, “Issaquah" is an anglicized word for a local Native American name, meaning “the sound of birds”.
These days, she mostly hangs out where ever the birds are. She has heard that a special kind of bird calls the Octopus Tree home, but no one has been able to find the tree.
Olympia The PNW Tree Octopus is 3 year old female that was named after the State Capitol of Washington. She found her way to Saltwater State Park last year after hitching a ride on an RV that had been camping near her home. Rangers found her and patched her up, then released her into the park to build a new home. She loves it here and hopes to raise hatchlings here some day. She also enjoys long slithers along the beach and finding the tallest trees in the park.
She's heard a rumor of an Octopus Tree that she has yet to find. Keep a look out this tree along your trail! If you find it, go back to the Spider Station and tell Olympia where it is.
